I moved to the UK from Romania a year ago, leaving my wife and my children back at home. The reason was simple - the wages in Britain even if they're being paid under minimum wage illegally is much higher than well paid jobs in Romania, so I could afford sending money home. Of course it was a big risk, but there was my step brother, who had been working as a fruit picker on a British farm for 3 months and encouraged me to give it a try.

I came to the UK with all our savings. I fancied Britain to be the country to make my dreams become reality, but this task turned out to be hard to accomplish.

I was a professional back in Romania, but despite having years of experience in marketing and a bachelor's degree, the only job I got was in a warehouse. I was job hunting for a month, went on 16 interviews, and they made it crystal clear that they didn’t want an immigrant.

My warehouse experience turned out to be very short. I still don’t know what was the matter, but one day I came there and they simply told me I was fired. Nobody cares about you when you’re an alien.

I tried not to fall into despair, but my job searching was completely fruitless, and I really needed money. I was struggling to pay rent, but the hardest and most disheartening was to know that my wife and my children were waiting and I was letting them down.

About two months later, when my landlord left, I realized I had only £13 in my pocket and bursted into shameful tears. I was exhausted, pathetic and ashamed. I didn’t even have money to return back to Romania. I felt things were only getting worse.

The solution came unexpectedly. I was once again looking through a job search website, when I saw an ad banner. It offered 90% profit for a correct prediction.
I never trusted ads, but I was so hopeless, there were no vacancies, so I decided why not?

I clicked on the banner. It led to a options trading broker website. I’ve never heard about options trading before, but they offered a free demo account and a tutorial video, didn’t ask to deposit or to give any information. I needed a distraction from the hell I was living in and I got it.

I came out of it only in the morning, when I had already made $763 on the price of the euro against the dollar on a demo account. I was thinking about it the whole day, doubting, wondering if it was worth spending the last money. Finally I decided I had nothing to lose - I was alone in a foreign country, probably having no chance to see my family and friends ever again. So I deposited £10 (£3 I spared to buy a pack of sausages at Tesco).

It worked. Thanks to demo trading, I already knew what to do. I made $100 in about an hour. At first I thought there might be some trick and they’ll get that money back having some excuse, but I withdrew it and nothing happened!

A month later I messaged my wife, telling her to pack their things. Three months later we moved into a fancy house in London suburbs. I was no longer looking for a job - who needs a job, when you can make hundreds of dollars every day lying on the sofa? Now we’re planning our family Mediterranean cruise, and I can’t believe that only a year ago I couldn’t sleep, roaming from one car wash to another, asking if they needed help, so I could buy anything to eat.

Here I am in 2024, withdrawing profit to my wallet from the Options trading platform with trembling hands. I remember that moment when a sum of $1000 seemed huge to me.
